Sometimes you might find that you want certain bones from an existing armature to transfer to another armature.
In my example here, I have a hoodie meant for another avatar in which I want to transfer the strings bone to another avatar so the string still have physics.

Step 1: Remove the parent from the desired bone.
- Select the bone in edit mode and press ALT + P to clear parents.

Step 2: Join the entire armature to the destination armature.
- In object mode, select armature you’re transferring bones from, then CTRL + Click the armature you’re transferring bones to. Press CTRL + J.

Step 3: Delete all undesired bones
- In edit mode, select all bones transferred except for your desired bones and press ‘X’ to delete.

Step 4: Parent added bones to destination
- Select the child bones, select the destination bone, CTRL + P to parent.

Step 5: Size the mesh with transferred bones down to match the placement of the transferred bones.

Step 6: Remove old armature link, and make a new one for the destination armature on transferred mesh

Step 7: Verify weight painting is still in place.
